My work is an ode to my childhood self — to my homes — to Baltimore. It is a visual representation of my reflection and reminiscing of my personal history. My childhood, family, home, and experiences, all rooted in Baltimore, are what inspire me to create.
I am a researcher and archivist at heart. I work to preserve my personal history by collecting, documenting, and referring to what I call my “external” artifacts— family photos, text messages, physical objects, members of my family, etc.— and “internal” artifacts— my memories and feelings— to disassemble and reassemble (as memories do) into handmade meta-collages and assemblages. These physical collections function as immortalizations of the aspects of my life that are absent, and aspects of my life that art currently present but still deserve to be commemorated.
